Eyes are your window to the world and if proper care is not taken, this window will cease to function and block you from enjoying your life. If proper care for eyes are not taken, it can result in various eye conditions such as age related macular degeneration and cataracts, which is a leading cause of blindness in the world.
The Ayurvedic name for defective eyesight is ‘Drishti Dosha’. Alochaka Pitta is responsible for maintaining eyesight and it weakens with age. To ensure good healthy eyes, proper caring for the eyes is one preventative measure that helps. A few causes of defective eyesight include prolonged constipation, nervous debility, prolonged common cold, stress, diabetes, excessive smoking, alcohol intake and caffeinated drinks.

A proper natural diet can improve eyesight and includes intake of apple, grapes, carrots, cucumber juice, spinach, turnip, fresh milk, cheese, butter, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, soya beans, green peas, oranges and dates, all of which are rich sources of Vitamin A. Almond is also ideal for eyes.
Ayurveda also prescribes some herbs for improving eyesight, most of which are natural. Amla Juice, powdered asparagus with honey, garlic juice, rose petals juice and liquorice powder are amongst the few. The most important amongst them is Triphala. It is an important medicine for eye health, especially blurred vision or to prevent the development of cataract. Triphala strengthens the muscles of the eyes and improves eyesight. It is also helpful in curing various eye problems like cataracts, glaucoma, progressive myopia, and conjunctivitis. It is also used to wash the eyes, in order to reduce their redness. Triphala is very helpful in treating impaired vision as well.
