Itoozhi Ayurveda lost a dear friend & patron with the passing of Padmashri PR Krishna Kumar, the MD of The Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Coimbatore on 16 September 2020.
Padmashri PR Krishna Kumar’s was a life devoted to Ayurveda and its promotion across the world. Graduating from the PNNM Ayurveda College at Shornur, it was revolutionary on his part to take up the propagation of Ayurveda through proper education rather than choosing the path of an Ayurveda physician. He travelled to over 50 countries for the promotion of Ayurveda as a holistic form of treatment and healing and was very vocal on international platforms about adapting Ayurveda as a way of life.
One couldn’t expect any less from him, having imbibed the qualities of daring, forthrightness and enterprise from his illustrious father, the legendary Arya Vaidyan P. V. Rama Varier, the founder of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP).
He was a visionary in Ayurveda, and a true torch-bearer in promoting it in a way that enhanced trust, reliability and inquiry into this holistic stream of healing. It is with this in mind that he established the AVP Research Foundation (AVPRF) to conduct clinical, literary, field, and drug researches. Thanks to him, the country also got the first gurukula-based Ayurvedic College and the first clinical documentation program called RUDRA in 2003 to promote practice-based evidence in Ayurveda.
It is to be recalled that the Government of India in 2009 honored him with the ‘Padmashri award’ and presented him the prestigious ‘Dhanwanthari Puraskar’ in 2016 for his contributions in the field of Ayurveda Education, Health and Community Services.
