Bala-(Kurumthotti)-cultivation-with-1-Lakh-saplings-in-Kannur--Kerala

The Itoozhi Illam Ayurveda Foundation Charitable Trust, in association with Malabar Medicinal Plants Farmers’ Association has kickstarted Bala (Kurumthotti) cultivation in Kuttiattoor Grama Panchayat on 06 September 2020. The initiative, the first of its kind in Kannur district, Kerala was inaugurated by Itoozhi Vaidyar Dr.I.Bhavadasan Namboothiri. The 1 lakh Kurumthotti saplings have been made available free of cost by the Itoozhi Medicinal Plants Nursery, working under the aegis of the National Medicinal Plants Board – Regional cum Facilitation Centre (Southern Region).

In addition to Bala, saplings of other medicinal plant varieties like Orila (Sal leaved Desmodium), Moovila (Sticky Desmodium), Chittamruthu (Heart-leaved Moonseed), Kattaar Vazha (Aloe Vera), Aadalodakam (Malabar Nut), Koovalam (Wood Apple), Ashokam (Brahmi) have been kept ready by the nursery for free distribution across the state. The medicinal plant cultivation is being done on the barren, cultivable land of Sri MV Kunjiraman Master.

This Medicinal Plants cultivation initiative will be now be gradually taken to all the panchayaths in Kannur and then to the other districts of Kerala.
