The common symptoms include redness in the white of the eye or inner eyelid, discharges from the eye, blurry vision, itching, increased tear generation and extreme sensitivity to light.
Causes.
Commonly referred to as the Pink eye or Madras eye, conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva (the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids) mostly due to viral infections. At times this could also happen due to allergic reactions or bacteria. Irritants like cosmetic detergents (shampoos and the like), chlorine in water, allergic reactions to certain contact lenses by regular users are some of the causative agents.
